I’m in awe how my eldest son Gelo, 9 years old, grasps the value of savings very early on in his life. I grew up never fully understanding the value of being a good steward of God’s blessings, especially money. I heard how P. Paolo Punzalan taught his son Nathan the value of money and I tried it.
Gelo gets p500. allowance a week. From that amount he immediately put aside 10% for his tithes, 40% for his savings and the rest is his funds for school. When we were in Hong Kong last year he bought an atm machine savings bank.
He then pays for everything that we deemed not his needs like toys, DVDs, Timezone and the likes.
I am so proud of him that he really knows how to control his expenses and at this early age values saving. I can remember the last time we were at V Mall, we checked out 3 shops with Monty. After Monty bought his toy, he just quipped that he would rather save than buy anything. Early this year, he was able to buy his very first guitar with the money that he saved. There are times that I urged him to bring more than p50. to school since he has a lot of savings but he refused to do so and with the same remarks,†I would rather save.â€
Gelo also is also very generous, I remembered last Christmas how he on his own decided to buy his mom a shirt with his own money. He even loves sharing with his brother Monty and even often treats him.
Am so proud of Gelo, I pray that he will be a very good testimony and a model for others to follow.
Proverbs 21:20 The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get (New Living Translation).
